American Express and Diners Card have a smaller user base than Visa and Master Card, American Express would be important if you are targeting the corporate markets or the USA and Europe.

The New Zealand Banks Merchant Accounts do NOT acquire (accept payment deposits) for American Express or Diners Card capability by default.

American Express or Diners Cards merchant status must be obtained seperately by registering direct with those issuer organisations. Sales proceeds are credited to your banks merchant account directly by both American Express and Diners.

As a Merchant, do I need to register or enroll in order to accept American Express Cards over the Internet?

Yes. Merchants that wish to accept American Express via the Internet will need a separate Merchant Number for their online business.
